UNDIE RUN

This event is the culmination of a all the partying you have ever done your entire life. This event will single-handedly change the way you percieve life. This event is the reason why we Sun Devils live life...What event am I refering to? The ASU UNDIE RUN!!!!!! Since 2007 ASU students have been celebrating the end of each school year with a half naked stroll around campus. The Undie Run is a clothing donation drive where all the ASU students are invited to the SRC fields to literally donate the clothes off their back. In 2007, 5000 students attended and the total attendance numbers in the years following have been 7,500 and 12,500 respectively. I have attended each year and it is always my favorite memory of the year. There is nothing comparable to partying on a football field, with all of your classmates, in your underwear! The entire event is a spectacle. They have sponsors such as Red Bull, Vitamin Water, Muscle Milk, and Tempe12 there handing out free stuff for everybody. The stage has a great DJ every year that gets people hyped up for an hour before the start of the run. Usually people would not be inclined to run around a bunch of strangers in their underwear but for some reason on the day of Undie Run, everybody is cool with it. I remember thinking that I had died and went to heaven when I attended as a freshman. There were so many attractive women it is impossible for me to put it in words. The Undie Run will most certianly be my favorite memory from my experience here at ASU.

Advice:The Undie Run is for everybody and it doesn't matter what you look like. Keeping that in mind I'll offer my advice of working out a few times in the weeks prior to the Undie Run because a lot of people are going to see you in your underwear. And if you don't have the rock solid chest, I adivse in purchasing "special" attire for the occasion. (maybe new slik boxers or a gorilla suit) You don't want to be "that guy"in all the pictures unless that's your thing, then own it. 

Scottsdale Clubs

After visiting Mill Ave on your 21st birthday and getting a taste of what it is like for a 21+ Sun Devil you assume things can't get much better...You're wrong! If your 21 and haven't been to Scottsdale yet, "Quit staining yourself McGunson!" Scottsdale simply is the place to be. It's a miniature Las Vegas club scene with more plastic girls and fist pumping then an episode of Jersey Shore. Mill Ave is the place to go when you want to go out but you don't want to spend that much money. Scottsdale is the place you go when you want to be surrounded by beautiful looking people and over-priced mixed drinks.

One of the best parts of Scottsdale is the upper-class vibe of the entire club scene. The strict dress codes and the fact that Scottsdale is located a few miles away from campus gives the club scene an exclusive type of appeal. Clubs such as Smashboxx have a great vibe with VIP tables located close to the dance floor and a crazy dance atmosphere. However, if the wild craziness isn't your thing, clubs such as Dollhouse and The Mint might be more your vibe with their lounge style decor. Either way, the best way to get there is via party bus with all of your friends. If you network properly, after you turn 21 you will most likely know a few club promoters. If this is the case you are at an advantage because they can help you navigate Scottsdale quicker and cheaper. No more long lines, VIP ONLY. Promoters can also help get your group of friends to Scottsdale. Many promoters host pregames which is extremely important because after you arrive in Scottsdale you are subject to consuming $9-$15 drinks unless one of your friends has VIP bottle service. Another benefit of attending a promoters pregame is that they usually reserve a few party buses for everybody to ride to the club in.

Advice: Become friends with promoters. They can get you and your friends on the VIP list which will help you skip all the lines. Time is money and if you can save time, ultimately you can drink more!

Mill Ave 21st Birthday

It's your 21st birthday and you have one thing to do...GO RAGE AT THE BAR!! Your whole life has been leading up to this moment. Finnally being able to go to the bar and party whenever you want to. You have asembled a core group of friends either from class, greek life, or life in
general and these will be the witnesses to the biggest shit-show of your life. Everybody assembles for your massive pre-game as to welcome you to the ever desired "21+Club". Depending on where you live the lightrail might be the best mode


of transportation to and from mill. This is a pleasnt perk for those party goers who previously delt with the difficulties of trying to hunt down cabs and big orange busses. Insted you are shipped away in a futuristic spaceship (lightrail) to the land of drunken college students. Once on mill you have many options for fun and entertainment. There are many shops and botiques to enjoy. Hippy Jipsy is a good one to visit and it is located in the center of the most poppin area of mill. Cue Club, Robbie Fox's, Zuma, and Suite 301 are popular bars for the everyday party animal. Each spot having its own unique vibe. Fridays, suite 301 has a great atmosphere located 5 stories, ontop of Hooters overlooking Mill Ave. $3 Corona's are a great value.

On saturday nights Robbie Fox's is usually full including the outdoor patio and dancefloor. But once your 21 you don't need to limit your drinking to just the weekend; now I can strongly suggest to you getting a Zuma juice from Zuma on "Toxic Mondays" or a long island at Cue club. Nomatter where you go though, remember to fist-pump your pitchfork has hard as possible and rep ASU!

Advice: On your 21st birthday don't wear white, and don't drink too much at your pregame or you risk a chance of loosing your I.D. before you get to the bar.

Tempe Town Lake

It's a puddle, it's a mirage, it's a lake in the middle of the desert? Yes, it's Tempe Town Lake! Comming from Minnesota I was not used to the lack of bodies of water around where I live. Back home my house was within 5 miles of 6 different lakes and I must say I missed them all when I first moved here. Over time I discovered Tempe Town Lake and it changed my perception of Tempe. Tempe Town lake is man made and was officially delclared full and open in the summer of 1999. One year later Tempe beach park was  rennovated declared open to the public. This area has really changed the secenery and vibe of the popular Mill Ave. District for the better. Tempe Beach Park and Tempe Town Lake have many activities you can enjoy. Not only is it kid friendly with the instalation of the Cox Splash Playground installed in 2002 but it serves a great date ammunition or a general relaxation spot. When I first discovered Tempe Town Lake I rode my longbord down the mile and a half bike path. I can vividly remember having a surreal moment by myself while looking at the lake from ontop of a hill facing the lake. Yet another moment where I say in my head "Wow. I'm deffinately not in Minnesota anymore"

Tempe Town Lake also serves as a great spot to bring a date. Many local events are held at Tempe Town Lake. Every 4th of July the city of Tempe host a fireworks display that gets fantastic reviews. The Lake also host many other events such as Octoberfest which was held last week a. But if festivals are not your cup of tee there is also more relaxing things to do while there as well. The paddle boat rental station is very popular all year long. For an affordable price you and a partner can travel the lake via boat and if you pick a good time the scenery is remarkable.

Advice: Tempe Town Lake is a GREAT place to bring a date. It's free to walk around and enjoy the rare scenery of a lake in the middle Tempe Arizona. So go out there, and find yourself a mate, in today's tough economical situation free dates like this are invaluable.

Date @ Tempe Marketplace

It's a Wednesday, your bored, and you've been doing a lot of partying and meeting new people so you decide to whip out the cell phone and hit up that special somebody you met last week at the pool party. After a small amount of game-spitting you decide on the typical dinner&a movie date and Tempe Marketplace is the perfect venue for college students doing just that. Being from Minnesota, I was totally amazed the first time I went there. Not only are there lazer lights that reflect off Target and other stores but the entire mall is OUTSIDE! My first thought when I arrived there was, "Damn, I'm not Minnesota anymore!" There is no way people would go shopping outside in the negative temperatures back home. But thats the beauty of Arizona, the weather isn't an issue.

Once you arrive at the mall it's hard to not want to go shopping. I personally can't leave the snap-back hat capitol of Arizona Just Sports. I have noticed that many girls that I go to the mall with can't avoid Victoria's Secret and I can't complain. After walking around a little bit you are granted many reasonably priced food options for dinner. My favorite place to take somebody on a date would be Cadillac Ranch. Not only do they have a mechanical bull that you can ride but they have an outdoor bar

and seating area with a great view that overlooks the courtyard. Christmas lights line all of the palm trees and at night it's got a good ambiance. After dinner it's a small stroll through the mall to get to the Harkins Theatre. They have fireplaces and water fountains outside the ticketing area for you to wait at before your movie and it's a nice place to meet up with other people if you want to go on a double date or meet up with a group. It's reduced ticket prices for all students so thats a bonus. After the date is over, it's a convienyent 5 minute drive or $10 clean air cab ride from campus. Hopefully if everything goes right, you won't go home alone.

Advice: If your on a budget, stop at gas station before you get to the mall and pack a light snack for the movie. As much as I like the movie theatre, everything there is overpriced.

ASU vs UofA Football Game

Whats more enjoyable than watching ASU win a football game???... Watching ASU win a football game against the University of Arizona Wildcats! Here at ASU they teach you to hate the wildcats and we do. No love, no interstate compassion, just ruthless hostility toward anybody you see wearing red or blue around sun devil stadium on gameday. You've been awaiting this game all year and it's all anybody has been talking about for weeks. This event is so big facebook didnt even need a "event invitation" because everybody and their grandma will be there. Attending football games is one of the best ways to demonstrate your undeniably incredible school spirit. You arrive to the tailgate with your roomates and other people from your hall in full dess code...Gold! Never had you seen so many people wearing the same thing and it feels great to be appart of it. Tailgating is one of the best parts of ASU. LOT 59 is where the madness happens. Like many tailgates there are alumni posted up all around making some of the most delecious smelling food you could imagine. Unlike many tailgates, the amount of attractive women dancing and getting pumped up for the game is unparralled. There is all sorts of different types of music and you have the opportunity to party with people from so many different demographics its great. If you are not 21 it's still a good time because the drunken college students meshing with the drunken alumni serve as terrific pregame entertainment.

Now its gametime! Sun devil stadium is one of the best football fields in the country. It holds up to 71,706 people. When UofA comes here to play you can sense the heightened sense of school pride on both sides of the rivalry. Not only are you representing your school but your representing the set of values that has led you to become the raging party animal that everybody loves. Most of the stadium is full of gold and you feel the group solidarity. Right before kickoff you have another surreal moment similar to the feeling ontop of A Mountian. You realize just how many students attend ASU. Simply put, we're rollin deep. You can tell that you go to the most popular university in the country when you attend big public events like this.

Advice: Give Tuscan back to Mexico!! && Don't drink underage at the tailgate because there are alot of police present. Nobody wants to get an M.I.C. It's such a buzz-kill. And don't stay at one tailgate too long. Walk around, make some new friends, and continue to take pictures. These memories of stomping on wildcats will last a lifetime. GO DEVILS!!!

Salt River Tubing

Every weekend you find yourself doing the exact same routine of waking up, going to the pool, having a good time but for some reason you feel like this upcomming weekend should be different. While brainstorming new things to do, one of your friends suggest that you get a group together to float the salt river. At first you say, "What? There's rivers in Arizona??" Then your friend explains what floating the river really entails and you decide to make a facebook event so you can invite all of your friends. You reserve a Big Orange Bus for the upcomming weekend and it's set, 15 of your closest friends will be joining you. The day arrives and you bring all the essentials, beer for everybody that is 21, rope to keep everybody together, bed sheets to cover the tube (prevents rash), sunscreen, and plenty of water. Once you get there you realize how good of a decision it was to plan this trip. Everybody at the river is in a great mood and ready to float the day away. You rent tubes and begin 4 hour trip down the river. The feeling you get while floating with all of your good friends is pure happiness. In most circumstances it would bother you to be outside in 112 degree weather but this is the perfect situation for such circumstances. After about 2 hours all the beer is gone and you don't kno what to do. Then, all of a sudden you see a lonesome cooler that has been pinned against a rock by the current shortly after a set of rapids. (somebody obviously didn't tie down the cooler lol) You paddle to the cooler and find 8 more brews for you and your friends that are of age. You spend the entire day bonding with your friends, you meet some new ones as well and you tan darker than Jersey Shore. What more could you ask for?

Advice: DON'T DRINK THE WATER!! Wear plenty of sunscreen, and remember to pace youself while drinking. There is something about the heat that intensifys the effects of alcohol so try to drink a bottle of water inbetween drinks. And don't forget the rope. Without it you are guaranteed to loose at least few members of the group.

Pool Party!!!

It's a 147 degrees outside and you decide on staying in today because your still too tired from last night and it's not even safe to be outside in that kinda weather. Then your roomate runs into the room wearing an onsomble consisting of multi-colored swim trunks, undersized arm-floaties, party beads, sunglasses, a snap-back, no shirt and flip flops. At first you give him a confused look then he shouts, "POOL PARTY!!!" and at that very moment your day/life becomes destined for success. You rush to get ready while your roomates and other friends jump around pregaming to "Shots!" by LMFAO and Lil' Jon. After about 30 minutes of collecting and notifying people of the maddness that is about to occur your convienient big orange bus (tempe's best&most affordable taxi cab service) arrives to ship you to the facebook event "Jamie's Fuckin Birthday Rager Pool Party Hosted by DJ Circle of 101.1 JamZ". On the way there you openly ask the 15 people in the cab "So, who knows Jamie?" Everybody waits a moment and burst out in laughter and you realize nobody knows Jamie and as you arrive you can tell it doesn't even matter. You had attended birthday pool parties at friends houses and the local rec center growing up but the images unfolding infront of your very eyes had never been imagined by your innocent little mind. As you look around you realize stuff like this is why you chose ASU and it doesn't even matter that it's hotter then a blow dryer in a sauna. There are beautiful women dancing and holding red cups everywhere you look and a kid hanging upside down from the rim of the basketball hoop mounted on the side of the pool. Life couldn't get any better. After partying your ass off and working up quite the appitite you see the pizza man dropping off what looks like enough pizza to feed the entire football team and you dash over to grab a few slices before they're all gone. You get your pizza fix and notice you've darkened about 5 shades since you arrived at the party. At that point you know unfortunately...it's time to go back home and get some rest before you go out again that night.

Advice: Take as many pictures with your friends and random people as possible. After a while all the partying starts to blend together and it becomes hard to differentiate the all of the events you attend. Also, nomatter what time the facebook event says the party doesn't actually start til 2:30-3pm (anybody who partys hard enough won't be able to get up and get to the pool by noon or 1pm. Fact.)

A Mountian

Your parents just left town after moving you into your freshman dorm and this rush of freedom runs ramped through your mind and body. You just met a few kids from your floor and all anybody wants to do is go out and explore your new surroundings. Not being familiar with campus (one of the largest in the country) you don't know where to start the "journey" with all of these new found friends. Then somebody picks up a flyer for the annual white washing of the A on Tempe Butte (A Mountain) and there it starts. The "A" on A mountain is one of, if not the most recognizable symbols at ASU. Every year the school organizes a freshman gathering where everybody climbs the mountian and paints a small part of the A white. I remember it was 109 degrees my first journey to the summit and I learned a valuble lesson: Always bring water and a sweat rag. There's a certian feeling you get while your at the top and it's not just dehydration. Not only can you look around and see the entire campus, Mill Ave, downtown Phoenix, and mountians in the distance but some would argue you can see your future. I compared that initial feeling of being at the top to what Rocky must have felt like at the top of the staircase in Philidalphia. As you look out you realize alot about yourself and it serves as one of the first surreal moments your likely to have while attending school. I met alot of friends that I'm still close to today at freshman gatherings and hiking A mountian was one of the most fulfilling.

Advice: Meet the people on your floor and use going to the mountain as a bonding experience. Don't forget to invite the shy kid at the end of the hall (he might just become a good friend) and even more importantly the cute girl/guy that lives next door (you might just find a "cuddle buddy").

My name is Alex Henderson. I'm 21 years old and I'm a senior at the best college in the world...ASU!!! I'm originallty from Minnesota but like many others I couldn't bare the cold winters any longer and thats why I decided to attend ASU. First off, I want to say deciding to come to ASU was by far the best decision I've ever made in my life. I had extremly high expectations of school before I moved here and I must say that the things I've experienced at ASU are unimmaginable. In my 3 years here I have become a seasoned party veteran while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. (B's get degrees baby!!) Basically I know how to party my ass off and still make it to class, nomatter how hung over I might be. This detication to school and partying has given me a vast knowlege of some ins and outs of ASU and the surrounding area that I wish to share with incomming frehsman, transfers or anybody else who wants to know 'Whats up?'. Most of us will attempt to graduate in 4 years and trust me, you don't want to waste any time going to the wrong parties or events becuase you'll look back and wish you could have that time back. You only live life once so get out there and PARTYYY!!
